EASTERN RAILWAY SAVED WORTH Rs. 9 CRORE OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF THE CURRENT FINANCIAL YEAR
Kolkata, July 8, 2024:
Eastern Railway has taken a comprehensive measures to save traction as well as non-traction energy. This measures not only help in reducing the energy bills but at the same time reduces consumption of fossil fuel leading to sustainable development. These efforts contribute to substantial cost savings and also align with the broader goal of reducing fossil fuel dependency.
Followings are the recent achievements in reducing the consumption of energy:
SAVINGS on IMPROVED POWER FACTOR
In May 2024, Eastern Railway saved Rs. 38,00,505.02/- on account of improved power factor and other rebates for non-traction energy bills. Cumulatively, the savings for the fiscal year 2024-25 (up to May 2024) amount to Rs. 77,60,988.90/-.
SAVINGS IN ELECTRICAL TRACTION
Through the regeneration of energy by 3-phase locomotives, Eastern Railway achieved significant milestones. In June 2024 alone, regeneration in 51 three-phase locos resulted in savings of 25,83,640 units of energy, which translates to approximately Rs. 1.94 Crores in savings in energy bill for the month. Cumulatively for the year 2024-25 (up to June 2024), this initiative has saved 1,09,84,814 units of energy, amounting to savings of approximately Rs. 8.06 Crores.
SAVINGS IN DIESEL TRACTION
Eastern Railway also focused on saving High Speed Diesel (HSD) oil through efficient management of diesel locomotives. During June 2024 (up to 27th June), forced shutdowns of 874 Diesel locos when not in use was ensured leading to significant savings of 356.186 Kilo Litres of HSD oil, worth Rs. 3.32 Crores.
These achievements underscore Eastern Railway's commitment to environmental sustainability and efficient energy management. By adopting innovative measures and leveraging technology, Eastern Railway continues to lead in reducing its carbon footprint while ensuring operational efficiency.
