ER CONTINUES DRIVE AGAINST SPITTING/LITTERING

IN RAILWAY PREMISES

Kolkata, January 29, 2015:

In its endeavour to improve cleanliness at station premises, Eastern Railway continues massive cleanliness drive and offenders detected spitting/littering in Railway premises are being penalised.

During this month upto 18th , an amount of Rs. 3,00,700 /- was realized against 2963 penalty cases while in December, 2014, an amount of Rs. 4,55,300 /- was realized against 4493 penalty cases of affecting cleanliness of Railway premises in Eastern Railway jurisdiction.

It may be mentioned that littering/spitting is strictly prohibited in trains/ platforms / railway premises for which penalties will be imposed upto Rs.500/-. However, contravention of these rules i.e. prohibition of activities affecting cleanliness and hygiene in the Railway premises under Railway Act 1989 and Indian Railways Rules -2012 will attract penalty.

Eastern Railway appeals to all passengers/rail users to co-operate in Railways’ drive to keep trains/platforms/station premises neat and clean.

·Huge penalty earning in Seadah Division from offenders spitting in Railway Premises

During the period from April to December, 2014, Sealdah Division alone has realised an amount of Rs. 5,34,300 from 5341 penalty cases for spitting in Railway premises, while in December, 2014 alone Sealdah Division has realised an amount of Rs. 68,600 from 684 penalty cases for spitting in Railway premises.
