BRIEF HISTORY OF B. R. SINGH HOSPITAL

B. R. Singh Hospital is named after Baba Ramrik Singh, the First Agent of East Bengal Railways in the Pre-Independent Era and established in the Year 1934.It was established in the form of Health Unit to serve the employees of the Traffic Department of Railways of Eastern Region.

B.R Singh Hospital , the Head Quarter Hospital and Research Centre of Eastern Railway is unique because of its excellent contribution in the fields of patient care and management, industrial and public health management including family welfare activities, as well as excellent academic contributions to the field of medicine at both National and International levels. Excepting Medical Colleges, all such services are seldom provided by even top corporate hospitals in Kolkata.

It is one of the few Hospitals where specialist senior doctors (IRMS & Sr. Resident) are present in the hospital round the clock in the fields of Emergency, Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology, Anesthesiology and Cardiology.

• The new Building houses Mother and Child Hub Indoor in 1^stFloor, Female Surgical ward in 2^nd Floor, Male Surgical wards in the 3^rd Floor, OT in 4^th Floor and Surgical ICU, HDU and CSSD in the 5^th Floor.
• In House CT Scan : 1^stin Indian Railways.
• SMS based mobile app for Laboratory Blood Reports : 1^st in Indian Railways
• LIMS in Pathology : 1^st in Indian Railways
• Digitization of Medical Records started from May 2018 : 1^stin Indian Railways Hospitals, and retrieval of Data with software installed
• The Hospital complex is secured with CCTV Camera.
• The Hospital is empanelled in Ayushman Bharat Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojona.
• Two Ayurvedic Doctors ( One of them attends Fairly Place HU) and one Doctor in Unani and Homeopathy are working in B.R.Singh Hospital
• Medicines when available in adequate amount is being given to Retired Railway beneficiaries for two months and patients going abroad are provided for Four months.
• Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) (capacity 6 KL) commissioned from the month of May 2016 and another 13KL LMO is commissioned in 2021(During COVID ).
• New Medical Store Building started functioning from the month of Jan 2016.
• Modern Modular Kitchen.
• Hospital Cornea Retrieval Programme (HCRP) with Disha Eye hospital.
• Counseling Centre at B.R Singh Hospital for HIV AIDS, De-addiction, Family Welfare & Adolescent Sexual Health.
• Modified Early Warning Scoring (MEW Score), GCS scoring, q-SOFA score, SOFA score introduced in Casualty and all critical care units for better Triage and treatment.
• Advanced Cardiology Centre & CTVS surgery: 2^ndin Indian Railways after Perumbur Railway Hospital.
• Two specialists in Cardiology, and one each in Endocrinology, Urosurgery, Gastroenterology and Oncology.
