Howrah station is a CII-IGBC certified Green Railway Station (SILVER RATED), one and only is Eastern Railway.
Howrah Station has achieved ISO 14001:2015 certified for various environment friendly initiatives and as per the directives of the Hon'ble National Green Tribunal.
Vertical Garden has been created in the station premises to augment green touch.
Howrah station has been converted to 100% LED lamps for lighting and presently around 225 lux average illumination is available. This is as per latest Railway Board Guidelines of above 200 lux.
A Unique Supervisory controlled & Data Acquisition system (SCADA) is installed for entire lighting and electrical load to achieve maximum reliability and power utilization efficiency.
Installed 11 nos. High Volume Low Speed fans for better passenger comfort and elimination of noise arising from Air Circulator fans. They also save energy to the tune of 64255 KWH/year.
8 food stalls under IRCTC are available in the station premises for passengers and all of these have consent to operate/establish certification from the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB).
Display of environment friendly habits, anti littering posters through video wall.
10,170 nos. of plants and 2.05 hectares have been planted at Railway Colony land and RPF Barracks, during April'18 to February 2019.
