Eastern Railway Workshop Hospital, Kanchrapara was earmarked as Level-2 COVID Hospital or DCHC. Following the specific guidelines of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Govt of India, this Hospital had started its journey with the aim to break the spread of COVID-19 transmission amongst the railway workers & their dependent family members, & manage & treat successfully mild & moderate cases by.
1)Isolating suspected & confirmed cases of COVID-19
2)Providing health care & treatment by utilizing available resource & procuring new gadgets & technology procuring appropriate PPE, training & updating skills of available manpower & their equitable & justified distribution.
The medical team has already started their sincere effort to give service, care & treatment to clinically assigned ‘Mild’ and ‘Moderate’ COVID-19 infected & suspected Railway Beneficiaries.
The working infrastructure of this team are as follows:-
A completely separate COVID BLOCK has been demarcated separate from the rest of the Units of the hospital with six(06) Isolation Wards & Cabin of total bed capacity is 100 (hundred beds) has been created.
·Isolation 4, Isolation 6 & Isolation 2 (ICU set up) are earmarked for Covid-19 confirmed cases.
·Isolation 3 & Isolation 5 are earmarked for Male & Female COVID-19 suspected Moderate cases respectively.
·Isolation 1 is kept for health care Workers if any unfortunate incident of covid-19 infection occurs during the course of their professional work.
·02 Cabin beds adjoining Isolation 1 are also earmarked for confirmed cases with eligibility for cabin beds.
Ward Management & Treatment:
·Patients and their relatives communicate with the help of talk back Microphones with nurses & doctors.
·Wards have been kept airy and well ventilated as much as possible. Distance between beds have been ensured as directed by MoHFW (more than 1.5metre spacing between beds).
·Each bed has been provided with Oxygen Cylinder to take care of Respiratory Distress, cases at any point of time.
·Patients are examined and checked for any deterioration of condition with Infrared Thermometer for fever, Finger Tip Oxymeter for SPO2 at regular intervals & Respiratory rate.
·Multipara Oxymeter, Digital BP Instruments, Oxygen Concentrators are kept ready for those patients who may develop SARI (Severe Acute Respiratory Illness) and for patients with co-morbidities like CKD, CCF, LVF, HTN, DM, COPD.
·All patients have to undergo daily 12 leads ECG.
·The Wards are manned with separate dedicated Wards Doctors & HCWs on specified shifts. Doctors are accompanied with same group of HCWs in each shift for a stretch of fourteen (14) days.
·Doctors & all HCWs on duty are strictly instructed to use the full set of PPE as per guidelines (MoHFW). Separate Donning & Doffing area have been earmarked. Used PPE and other BIO-Medical Waste products are disposed off according to ICMR & BMW Waste management guidelines.
NPS Sample Collection:
·Nasopharyngeal swab (NPS) is collected from each suspected case, They are sent for testing after preserving properly in VTM to ICMR recognized Laboratory .
·If the NPS report returns positive the patient is immediately shifted to the COVID Confirmed Wards (i.e. Isolation 1 & Isolation 2) or Cabin as the case may be.
