Kanchrapara Loco Wheel Shop is the most vital shop under control of Dy.CME(G)/KPA which was set up since inception of Kanchrapara Work Shop in the year 1863. In the earlier days Wheel Shop was repairing/machining the wheels of steam locomotive, Carriage & Wagon. With the passage of time, keeping parity with the changed pattern of workload, wheel shop has also switched over to POH of wheels of conventional and 3- phase Electric locomotive wheels, EMU wheels, Tower Cars and IOH of ICF wheels. This wheel shop has state of the art of machines such as CNC Axle turning Lathe, Vertical turret Lathe, Axle Journal turning and burnishing Lathe, Wheel Press, Surface wheel Lathe, Horizontal Boring Machine. Presently wheels of Electric locomotive, EMU motor coaches, EMU trailer coaches, ICF Coaches, New wheel set generation for Division & different Sheds are supplied from wheel shop as per their requirement.Loco wheel shop is given the responsibility to manufacture & supply the new wheel sets for EMU/MEMU coaches for manufacturing firms and also supplies the new wheels for conventional and 3-phase Electric Locomotives for different Zonal Rlys. against RSP sanction. Other major shops under control of Dy.CME(G)/KPA undertake (i) Body repair, furnishing and painting of EMU MC, (ii) Heavy corrosion repair of EMU MC, (iii) IOH of ICF Bogies ,(iv) POH of Loco Buffer and testing of helical coil springs, (v) Maintenance of M&Ps, EOT Cranes, Lifting tackle testing (vi) Overhauling of shock absorbers and dampers. There are all the DPT, MPT, UST and other Laboratory test are performed by M&C Lab. Training of RRB recruited Diploma Holder (Mech/Elect), Degree Holder (Mech/Elect), Skilled Artisan (Mech/Elect) and Intermediate Apprentice, Trainee JE-II from Eastern Railway and East Central Railway are being Trained at STC/KPA under Loco Mechanical.
