                     BRIEF OF MEDICAL DEPARTMENT – HOWRAH DIVISION

        Howrah Division extends up to Khana in the West, Katwa in the East, and Azimganj in the North from Howrah. The division is spread over (05) districts of West Bengal namely Howrah, Hooghly, Burdwan, Murshidabad and Birbhum.

MILESTONES OF ORTHOPAEDIC HOSPITAL-HOWRAH

1.Established in 1950 as a mere Health Unit.

2.In the year 1966 upgraded to 50 bedded hospital.

3.Gradually upgraded to present status of 179 bedded Super- specialty Hospital.

JURISDICTION:   280 Kilometers approx.

New Procedure: By the anesthetists working at Orthopaedic Hospital HWH (July 2014):

·Sacral Epidural anesthesia via sacral foramina in old aged patients with fracture for lower limb surgery. It helps in hemodynamic stability and post-operative pain relief especially in high risk old aged patients with co-morbidity.

·Dr. Subrata Basu, ACMS/HWH represented Howrah Orthopaedic Hospital in 8th ASMI International Conference held at Goa from 18th to 21st of September , 2014. Many International faculties attended the said conference. He also presented a scientific paper in that conference. His paper was one of the only two papers accepted from West Bengal.

·Dr V.Pandey , SrDMO/HWH was nominated to attend a workshop on 5S and Quality Management at The NAIR, BRC from 7/7/2014 to 11/07/2014 and Material Management and E-medicine from 8/12/14 to 12/04/14

·Dr C.Pathak , ACMS/Ortho/HWH and Dr J.Mukhopadhyay , ACMS/Ortho/HWH attended a conference on live Ortho surgery workshop at  Coimbatore , Tamilnadu.

Promotion of Rajbhasha

1. A lecture   on “उम्र और समय की सीमा के पार “was given in Hindi By Dr V.Pandey , SrDMO/HWH

at DRM meeting room on 26.06.2015.

2. Quotations in Hindi are being displayed daily in Orthopaedic Hospital, Howrah.

Training Sessions and Conferences Organized:

1.IRPHACON 2014: Public health Challenges in Indian railways had been organized at Riviera, Howrah on 16/01/2015 and 17/01/2015.

2.Training of Health Inspectors of Eastern Railway had been organized at orthopedic hospital on 16/07/15 and 18/07 /15.

3.Training of Family welfare and allied staff of Eastern Railway, Metro Railway, and CLW were organized at Orthopaedic hospital on 27/08/15.

4.A conference on Food safety had been organized at Riviera , Howrah on 13/8/15.
