IRAS Day Celebration in Kolkata.
On 29thNov. 2014, 3rd IRAS Day was celebrated in Kolkata at ‘the Riviera’ on the banks of Hooghly River. IRAS Officers from Eastern Railway, South Eastern Railway & Metro Railway attended the programme.
The celebration commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the senior most IRAS officers of the three Railways.
The inaugural address was delivered by Sri Sanjoy Mookerjee, FA & CAO/ER. While taking the gathering through the history of the IRAS since the inception of the service, Sri Mookerjee underlined the need for the IRAS Officers to keep themselves professionally updated with the latest innovations in technology and the changing scenario within the organisation. Since with restructuring and delegation of authority, the role of finance is bound to become progressively more and more important, he underlined the necessity of IRAS Officers to gear up to meet the concurrent challenges.
In his keynote address, Sri Alakesh Bandyopadhyay, FA & CAO/Metro Railway at the outset, re-emphasized the adage that knowledge is power. Listening is also emphasized to be one of the best communication skills which help in sorting out issues with the executive and the staff. He further stated that along with the art of listening, the ability to avoid unnecessary arguments needs to be developed because in an argument both parties lose. He read out excerpts from ‘wings of fire’, an autobiography of our ex-president, Sri A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, which stresses the importance of humility and the need to draw lines between firmness and harshness, between leadership and bullying, between discipline and vindictiveness.
Sri Vijay Kumar, FA & CAO/HQ/South Eastern Railway mentioned the need of becoming techno friendly as IT is continuously making changes into our working sphere.
Sri Amitava Mukherjee, Dy. CAO/TA/ER gave a knowledgeful presentation on ‘Service Tax and its implications in Indian Railways’.
Sri Aloke Biswas, FA & CAO/Con/ER gave valedictory remarks.
The programme ended with a lunch organized at the “Riviera’, on the beautiful bank of the river Hooghly.
