Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer is the Branch Officer looking after Mechanical Engineering Department activities. These activities includes Coach Maintenance, Wagon maintenance, maintenance and operation of Accident Relief Trains, Break down cranes, etc.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT – CARRIAGE & WAGON

 

Carriage and Wagon wing of Mechanical Engineering Department is associated with the maintenance of Coaches and Wagons. Asansol Division is major freight loading division. Thus it demands more o­n wagon maintenance, examination and repair front for adequate availability of fit wagons for freight loading. An overview of this wing is given below-

Besides Coach maintenance at Pit line, Platform Attention is also being done for en route train passing and watering for nominated trains.

(B.)On Board Housekeeping Scheme facility in 04 trains of Asansol Division:

On Board Housekeeping Serviceis being provided in 04 Asansol based trains:

A.12361/12362 Asansol Mumbai Express 

B.13576/13575 Jasidih Tambaram Express

C.13507/13508 Asansol Gorakhpur Express

D.13509/13510 Asansol Gonda Express

This facilitates various services to passengers onboard train enroute journey through various channels like Coach-Mitra, Rail Madad, SMS etc.

(C.) Clean Train Station (CTS):

"Clean Train Station Scheme" is one of the major initiatives of Indian Railways. Asansol Station is nominated as Clean Train Station in Eastern Railway. Total 26 long distance trains are cleaned by professional agency by mechanized process, especially toilets are cleaned by using high pressure jet machines and environment friendly bio-degradable cleaning agents at Asansol during their scheduled stoppage.

4.       (A.) MAJOR WAGON ACTIVITIES:

In Asansol Division, wagon activities are concentrated at Andal/DSEY/Sitarampur and Hirapur.

            Total Wagon Repair (Yard and Sicklines)     - Avg. 1074 wagons per month (2020-21)

            Total Routine Overhaul of Air Brake Wagons- 480 wagons per month (2020-21)

            Total Rake examination                        - 546 rakes (CC-31, Premium-77, ETE-438) per month (2020-21)

(B.) Wheel Impact Load Detector (WILD):

Wheel Impact Load Detector System is fitted at Nimcha in Asansol Division/Eastern Railway. This is an unmanned trackside system that measures the impact load on the rails to detect defects in Coaches, Wagons and Locomotives. As the Train passes over the instrumented rail, data is collected and sent to the system in real time. If defective axles found, an audio visual alarm is activated and concerned officials are alerted immediately. Corrective action is taken to avoid any unusual incident.
