  • Modern Signaling system in Sealdah division
    1. Single Section Digital Axle counter: On move towards modern signaling Sealdah division has gone for SSDAC used as BPAC. These are compact and reliable device proving complete arrival of the train. There are total 145 numbers BPAC in Sealdah Division.
    2. Automatic signaling: To increase sectional capacity, Sealdah Division has gone for introducing Auto Signalling Sections. At present,there are 13 numbers Auto sections in Sealdah Division which are run by AC/DC Track circuit,AFTC,SSDAC & MSDAC.
    3. Data loggers: Data loggers are microprocessor based system for logging the changes of important signaling & interlocking events taking place at stations for preventive maintenance and failure rectification by analysis of signal failures. 112 data loggers are installed at station provided with panel interlocking .Data loggers help in diagnosis of signal defects.
    4. Intergraded Power System (IPS): IPS is the most reliable and essential equipment for powersupply arrangement as it reduces the maintenance hazards of a huge numbers of batteries as well as eliminates the possibility of blanking of signal. These are 124 IPS system provided in SEALDAH DIVISION.

    Providing basic telecommunications facilities for the Railways vast transport system is the responsibility of the signal & Telecom Department . The telecommunications facilities provided on the railways are broadly categorized in the three areas of applications.
    Telecommunication for train operation :
    Communication system gives controller for efficient train control and monitoring . Omnibus circuits exist for control operation connected with central control at SEALDAH.
    OFC & MW communication :
    Optical Fibre communication system is the Backbone of telecommunication network . The short –haul STM-1 equipments of 155 mbps capacity is provided at 52 stations along with fibre network . The Short –haul STM-1 network is protected by long –haul STM-1 self healing ring network provided in sections of control. The fibre network carries VOICE, DATA, & MULTIMEDIA services for various applications.
    Microwave communication:

    The OFC & MW communication system meets the entire need of voice and data communication circuits of the Divisions and the Zonal headquarters.

    A new digital public address system using the ‘ETHERNET’ based audio processor with PA Sound Management System has been installed at SEALDAH STATION. The main objective of this new system is to allow announcement of the new schedules from control room at PIC, control room at Sealdah Station and Sealdah (North Main) RRI and to meet target criterion of speech intelligibility with well spaced words and pauses.

    The system maintains speech transmission index (STI) more than 0.55 db to all the listeners at all passengers location in order to maintain speech intelligibility and average sound pressure level 85 db i.e. 10 db above the average noise level of 75 db, in order to make announcement audible. This system is CAPABLE OF CONTROLLING THE VOLUME ON ANNOUNCEMENT, DEPENDING ON THE LEVEL OF ambient noise, using 12 nos Noise sensing micro phone spread over strategic locations in Sealdah North and Main station areas which were not available with the previously installed public address system.

    Provides telephone Exchanges for Railway internal communication requirements. In Sealdah division. We have 11 electronic Exchanges provided at different location, connected with 2MB link.

    Data communication circuits for computerized passengers Reservation system (PRS), Unreservered Ticketing system (UTS), Freight operation and Information system (FOIS) Crew Management system (CMS).

    Optical fibre communication has been introduced in the following sections.
    2.KNJ-LGL 127.67 KMS.
    3.DDJ—DDC—BT—BNJ—RHA 105.59 KMS.
    4.BT—HNB 52.30 KMS.
    6.DDJ—MJT18.40 KMS.
    7.SEALDAH –BRP24.74 KMS.
    8.LKPR-NAMK 46.56 KMS.
