•Most attractive crockery, furniture and foot massagers at the rest room complex

Kolkata, July 8, 2024 :

Eastern Railway’s crew lobbies are all air-conditioned now and feature-packed with checking in by biometric, RO water filter and cooler, 5-star standard rest room accommodation with cubicle system for uninterrupted rest, food counters, separate rest room for lady staff. The Railways have even provided most attractive crockery, furniture and foot massagers at the crew rest rooms from safety funds for augmenting the comfort level of the running staff. 

At present there are 26 crew lobbies over Eastern Railway, most of which have both crew booking and crew waiting facilities. Loco Pilots, Assistant Loco Pilots, Train Managers, Motor Man, Guards and all running staff are of prime importance to Railways and all sort of facilities have been provided to them for their proper rest between successive duties. Apart from resting cubicle in serene atmosphere, meditation room, yoga room, massage chairs etc are provided at the crew rest rooms for increasing their comfort level. Besides, educative videos, simulating modules etc are also available at the crew booking lobbies and rest room complex to upgrade their working knowledge.

In Eastern Railway such facilities are available at all major stations of crew changing for example, Howrah, Bandel, Barddhaman, Azimganj, Rampurhat etc in Howrah Division, Sealdah, Kolkata, Dum Dum Jn, Naihati, Ranaghat etc in Sealdah Division, Asansol, Jasidih, Madhupur, Dumka etc in Asansol Division, Malda Town, Bhagalpur, Jamalpur, Sahibganj in Malda Division. 

The crew booking lobby and running room at Sealdah is an idealized example of the facilities available for the running staff. Existing Sealdah running room is well maintained with aesthetic view, pleasant sight in entire area has enhanced the peaceful environment of good work culture. A separate ladies room with attached toilet is available where o­ne dinning set has been provided for the separate use of lady crew and train manager. A sperate changing area has been provided in the room for use of lady crew and train manager. Other amenities like centralized air-conditioning meditation room with “OM’ chanting, kitchen with arrangements of veg & non-veg meal, AC facilities in running room, independent flexible reading light etc are also being provided. The cost of the meal is provided by Railways – 90% are borne by Railways and 10% by the Motor Man/Loco Pilots/ Assistant Loco Pilots.

The combined crew booking lobby and crew rest room at Sealdah have a total bed of 30 in Guard rest room and 48 in Motor Man/Loco Pilots/ Assistant Loco Pilot rest room, seminar room, south lobby, locker room, north lobby, reading room, meditation room, dinning hall and resting cubicles under o­ne roof. 

In crew lobby, the Motor Man/Loco Pilots/ Assistant Loco Pilots are provided with proper caution order and time table of the route he/she will perform duty.

It is also worthy mention that the Motor Man/Loco Pilots/ Assistant Loco Pilots are among the highly paid employees of Eastern Railway in comparison to staff of other departments with the same Grade Pay/ hierarchy. In addition, subsidized meal are being provided at the rest rooms through catering unit installed there so that while o­n duty and even far away from home, they can get palatable and good quality food as per their choice.

All these are the testament of Indian Railways’ continuous endeavour to provide even better working environment for the running staff.
