MONSOON PREPAREDNESS OF SEALDAH DIVISION FOR SEAMLESS SERVICES

Kolkata, July 5 , 2024

Eastern Railway’s Sealdah Division has taken several steps for smooth running of trains even in case of extreme weather conditions during monsoon season.

The following actions have been taken by Sealdah division to eliminate the problems faced during monsoon season keeping in  view the heavy torrential rain in costal areas and nearby region of West Bengal. 

 Monsoon Reserve Materials:-
Important monsoon reserve materials such as stone boulder, stone dust, wooden ballah piles, rail piles, gunny bag filled with sand/stone dust
C.C. crib, relieving girder etc. have been stored at strategic locations for use as and when necessary basis.

Monsoon Patrolling:-
Monsoon patrolling has already been introduced over the division for proper of monitoring of the condition of track and cess. Patrol chart has also been circulated to all concerned for proper monitoring. The movements of the patrolmen are being checked with the help of GPS tracker by Engineering control.

Identification of Vulnerable locations:-
Several vulnerable locations have been identified and stationary watchmen have been deputed for proper monitoring of the locations.

Identification & monitoring of LHS having water logging problem:-
Some Limited Height Subways (LHSs) which are prone to water logging have been identified and watchman has been deputed round o’clock at those LHSs for proper monitoring of water logging conditions. The water logging is also monitored by Engineering control through CCTV camera at 01 no. LHS. Pumps are also installed at those LHS which can be used during heavy rain

Installation of Pumps:-
Several yards and station areas have been identified which are prone to water logging and arrangements of pumps have been done at those locations. At present 33 Nos. pumps are available with IOWs and PWIs. Apart from that quotations have been prepared to arrange pumps for “as and when required” basis. Cleaning of existing drain had also been done to stop water logging.

Leaky Roof Treatment:-
Leaky roofs are also being attended and necessary repairing is being done o­n priority to arrest water leaking from roof.

All these measures underscores the Sealdah Division’s initiatives to maintain normal services despite adverse weather conditions.
