Press Release: EASTERN RAILWAY’S HOWRAH DIVISION’S PROACTIVE STEPS FOR MONSOON PREPAREDNESS

EASTERN RAILWAY’S HOWRAH DIVISION’S PROACTIVE STEPS FOR MONSOON PREPAREDNESS

Kolkata, July   5, 2024

Eastern Railway’s Howrah Division has taken several steps to maintain uninterrupted services during monsoon this year. As this region falls in a tropical area, heavy to very heavy rainfall alongwith cyclonic weather appears in the monsoon season. The low lying areas are also vulnerable to water logging due to slow movement of logged water river and other water ways.

Keeping in view the problem faced by this area by the southern part of Bengal during monsoon, Howrah division has taken several steps as monsoon preparedness aiming uninterrupted services. These measures are as follows:

•30 wagons have been loaded with boulders and kept ready at Bandel.
•54 wagons of sand dust has been loaded & kept ready at different stations as monsoon reserve.
•22 Nos. of vulnerable locations have been identified and round the clock monitoring has started by deployment of manpower.
•Drains at 37 Nos. of Limited Height Subways (LHS) has been cleared.
•Pumping arrangements has been kept ready at 37 Nos. of water logging prone subways (LHS).
•703 Nos. of platform sheds have been checked and repaired as per requirement.
•Drains adjacent to stations and Railway tracks at different places have been cleared.
•132 Nos. of trees beside the Railway tracks have been trimmed to prevent uprooting during the heavy rains.
•Monsoon patrolling started at different locations in the entire Howrah division including 36 Nos. of vulnerable locations.
•Regular night footplate inspection by officers started over Howrah Division.

These comprehensive measures reflect the Howrah Division’s commitment to ensuring passenger safety and maintaining service continuity despite the challenging weather conditions. The proactive steps taken will significantly mitigate the impact of monsoon-related disruptions, thereby enhancing the reliability of railway services in the region.
