OVER 25 % GROWTH IN FREIGHT LOADING AND EARNING OF EASTERN RAILWAY

Kolkata, July 03, 2024

Eastern Railway has recorded over 25 % increment in cumulative freight loading and earning in the first quarter of the current fiscal. The total freight loading during April to June 2024 recorded as 25.36 Million Tonnes compared to 20.277 Million Tonnes during corresponding period of previous financial year. The freight earnings of Eastern Railway in the first quarter of the current fiscal recorded as Rs 2290.55 crores compared to Rs. 1820.05 crores earned during the first 3 months of the previous financial year.

The main constituent of Eastern Railway’s freight basket which shown remarkable growth during this period is coal, iron ore and foodgrains. The increment in loading of coal during the first quarter of the current financial year i.e. April – June 2024 recorded as 33.66 % and similarly the growth in loading figure recorded as 5.6 % for iron ore & 47.45 % for foodgrains.

In the last month i.e. June 2024 also the same pace of growth in freight loading and earning observed over Eastern Railway. The freight loading over Eastern Railway for the month of June 2024 recorded as 8.385 Million Tonnes compared to a loading of 6.734 Million Tonnes in June 2023. The freight earning of Eastern Railway for the month of June 2024 also increased to Rs. 739.824 crores compared to Rs. 593.404 crores during the corresponding month of previous financial year.

Eastern Railway though popularly known as passenger carrying railway is now marching ahead to achieve excellence in freight loading  with considerable increase in share of bulk carriage of eastern region in respect of transporting industrial input and other essential commodities.
