Press Release: ADDITIONAL TRACK LENGTH NEAR 52 KM COMMISSIONED IN EASTERN RAILWAY

ADDITIONAL TRACK LENGTH NEAR 52 KM COMMISSIONED IN EASTERN RAILWAY

Kolkata, July 01, 2024

The Eastern Railway's Construction Department has achieved significant milestones in the infrastructural development of the region during the fiscal year 2023-24. A total of 51.31 kilometers of new line laying, doubling, multiple line, and gauge conversion projects have been successfully completed, marking a substantial enhancement in the railway network.

One of the key accomplishments of this period includes the commissioning of the Azimganj – Jiaganj new line, spanning 6.90 kilometers. This new connection bridges the Sealdah and Howrah divisional networks, facilitating smoother connectivity across Murshidabad and enhancing operational efficiency between South Bengal and North Bengal.

Additionally, the third line between Rampurhat and Murarai, extending over 29.48 kilometers, and the doubling work between Monigram and Nimtita covering 34.3 kilometers have been successfully commissioned. These initiatives are designed to alleviate congestion and enable the seamless movement of trains, thereby bolstering the capacity and flexibility of the railway infrastructure.

Furthermore, the completion of the gauge conversion work along the Krishnanagar – Kalinarayanpur stretch, totaling 21.99 kilometers, as part of the Krishnanagar – Amghata gauge conversion project, underscores Eastern Railway's commitment to enhancing sectional speed and operational capabilities.

These accomplishments reflect Eastern Railway's ongoing commitment to modernizing and expanding its infrastructure, aiming to improve passenger and freight services while laying the groundwork for future growth and development in the region.
