Press Release: EASTERN RAILWAY COMPLETES SIGNIFICANT OVERHEAD EQUIPMENT (OHE) MODIFICATION WORK TO ENHANCE TRAIN SPEED

EASTERN RAILWAY COMPLETES SIGNIFICANT OVERHEAD EQUIPMENT (OHE) MODIFICATION WORK TO ENHANCE TRAIN SPEED

Kolkata, June 26 , 2024:

Eastern Railway has completed critical Overhead Equipment (OHE) modification work aimed at increasing train speeds.  In May 2024, a total of 830 Track Kilometers of OHE modification work was completed, targeting the enhancement of sectional speed to 160 KMPH along the Delhi - Howrah route, specifically in the Howrah and Asansol Divisions.

This project involved extensive work in both divisions, with 328 Track Kilometers completed in the Howrah Division and 502 Track Kilometers in the Asansol Division. These modifications are essential for enabling higher train speeds, thereby improving punctuality and efficiency in train operations.

With this achievement, Eastern Railway has now completed 88.50% of the OHE modification work required across its network. This significant progress underscores the commitment of Eastern Railway to enhancing the safety, speed, and overall efficiency of its train services.

Shri Kausik Mitra, Chief Public Relations officer/Eastern Railway said that the OHE modification work is a crucial step towards modernizing our railway infrastructure. By upgrading the overhead equipment, we are facilitating higher sectional speeds, which translates to reduced travel times and improved service reliability for our passengers. Eastern Railway remains dedicated to continuous infrastructure improvement and modernization, ensuring that passengers experience the highest standards of rail travel.
