Press Release: EASTERN RAILWAY CONTINUING REPLACEMENT OF MANNED LEVEL CROSSING BY CONSTRUCTING ROAD UNDER BRIDGE/LIMITED HEIGHT SUBWAYS TOWARDS AUGMENTING SAFETY & MOBILITY

EASTERN RAILWAY CONTINUING REPLACEMENT OF MANNED LEVEL CROSSING BY CONSTRUCTING ROAD UNDER BRIDGE/LIMITED HEIGHT SUBWAYS TOWARDS AUGMENTING SAFETY & MOBILITY

Kolkata, February 12th, 2024

As a step further towards augmenting safety and bringing more mobility in train operation, after complete elimination of un-manned level crossings, Eastern Railway is gradually proceeding for elimination of manned level crossing by constructing Road Under Bridges/ Limited Height Subways as a replacement of the level crossings. These substitution of manned level crossing gates by RUB/LHS helps in avoiding detention of both road and train traffic and at the same time improve safety by eliminating road interfaces with the railway track. In FY 2023-24, Eastern Railway so far has eliminated 8 manned level crossings. Moreover, a total of 17 RUBs/Limited Height Subways have been constructed in 2023-24 over Eastern Railway network spreaded over West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand for developing Railway infrastructure as well as eliminating requirement of manned level crossings.

Continuing the pace of constructing such RUB/LHS, Eastern Railway has recently completed Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) box insertion work for construction of RUB/Limited Height Subway between Dhatrigram and Samudragarh stations of Bandel – Katwa section towards substituting Level Crossing Gate No. 12/1/E. This work will invariably increase the mobility in Bandel – Katwa section of Howrah Division. Moreover, in Malda Division also RCC box has been inserted for constructing limited height subway in replacement of Level Gate no. 41 and 42 in between Dumka & Barapalasi in Dumka – Bhagalpur section. In both the divisions such huge work has been completed by taking the Power Block of only 5 to 5½ hours. which was possible by the well coordinated work of various departments of Eastern Railway.

Eastern Railway will continue such work of eliminating level crossing for increasing sectional speed and punctuality of train running vis-à-vis bringing more safety in train operation.
