REPUBLIC DAY GIFT FOR HOWRAH-BANDEL COMMUTERS: HOWRAH DIVISION UNVEILS STATE-OF-THE-ART THREE-PHASE EMU o­n 75TH REPUBLIC DAY

Kolkata, January 27, 2024 :

A historic milestone for daily commuters o­n the Howrah-Bandel Main line was achieved o­n the auspicious Republic Day, as the Howrah Division of Eastern Railway introduced a groundbreaking Three-Phase Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU). The inaugural run of the 12-car rake, operational six times daily between Howrah and Bandel, commenced o­n January 26, 2024, with a Ceremonial run led by Divisional Railway Manager Shri Sanjeev Kumar.

Designated as Train No-37255, the newly introduced EMU departs from Platform 8 of Howrah Station at 15:00 hrs, o­n 26.1.2024, aligning this significant event with the Republic Day celebration, emphasizing the railway's commitment to providing advanced and comfortable transportation options.


Several coaches of the EMU are artistically painted, depicting images of our National Leaders and Freedom Fighters, offering visual satisfaction to passengers and a heartfelt remembrance of their victory and sacrifice.

Key Features of the Three-Phase EMU :
Technological Advancements: Equipped with coach surveillance cameras, Passenger Information System (PIS), and Push Switch type Alarm Chain Pull (ACP) for enhanced passenger convenience.
Safety Measures: Stainless Steel coach body and seats to reduce fire hazard, ensuring paramount passenger safety.
Communication Facilities: Emergency Talk Back Unit (ETBU) for passenger communication, along with Pantograph Cameras, Cab Cameras, Front Cameras, Side cameras, and CCTV Monitoring Display Unit for live monitoring of the rake.
Advanced Systems: Rake Roll Back Protection System, Fire Detection System, Passenger Announcement (PA) System, ensuring a safe and informed journey.
Energy Efficiency: BLDC Coach Fan with reduced energy consumption compared to conventional rakes, contributing to a more sustainable operation.
Regenerative Braking System: Incorporation of a Regenerative Braking System that saves approximately 30 percent of energy consumption during braking, promoting energy efficiency.

Moreover EMU team of Howrah Division has painted portraits of our freedom fighters as coach interior to commemorate glorious sacrifice and victory of our freedom fighters.

Eastern Railway is committed to offer commuters an advanced and comfortable travel experience, reflecting Railway’s commitment to technological innovation, passenger safety, and environmental sustainability.
