* Best Ever Freight Performance of Asansol Division of Eastern Railway for 1st quarter of Financial Year, 2023-24

Though Eastern Railway is a popularly known as passenger carrying Railway but this Railway Zone under the leadership of Shri Amar Prakash Dwivedi is continuously progressing in freight loading and has get a distinct position in the freight transport.
It is for the remarkable break through in freight transport business, Asansol Division of Eastern Railway has been awarded by Railway Board, Ministry of Railways for its excellence in freight loading performance for the first quarter of the current financial year ( 2023-24).
Asansol division achieves an incremental growth of 12.33% in freight loading for period from April to August in the current financial year (2023-24) in comparison to same period of 2022-23. Asansol division achieved Freight loading of 20.50 Million Tonnes for the period of April-August, 2023 registering a growth of 12.33%. Last year this freight loading volume was 18.25 Million Tonnes. With this, Asansol Division has set a new record by earning a revenue of Rs. 1766.20 Crores i.e., growth of 8.78 % against previous year. In recognition of this achievement, Ministry of Railway has awarded an amount of one (1) Lakh Rupees to Asansol Division.
Coal loading constitutes the major portion of loading which is 16.39 Million Tonnes. It is worthwhile to mention that Steel loading also plays key role in steering the overall freight performance of Asansol division. Steel is mainly loaded from Durgapur steel plant and IISCO Burnpur. Being an industrial city, Asansol manufactures various commodities like Cement and Fertilizer which are transported to different corners of India by the Railways.
