UNDER OPERATION “OPERATION SATARK” RPF/HOWRAH SEIZED HUGE AMOUNT OF GOLD & SILVER ORNAMENTS VALUED ₹65,15,500/- AT HOWRAH STATION


Kolkata, May 24, 2023


On May 21, 2023, a joint team of RPF officials from Howrah, Division, Eastern Railway, o­n a tip-off, conducted a secret watch cum raid over Howrah Railway Station (Old Complex) and detained o­ne person of Motihari (Bihar), with the recovery of approximately 850 gm of gold ornaments valued ₹49,72,500/- and liquid cash in Indian currency of Rs. 43,000/- from his possession. Being asked, they failed to give any satisfactory reply or produce any documents, rather accepting that he purchased the gold ornaments from Sinthee More, Kolkata and arrived at Howrah Railway Station to board train no. 13005 UP.  Later o­n, after completion of all legal formalities, the detained person with the recovered gold and cash was handed over to the Customs Department, Kolkata, for further necessary action.

On May 22, 2023, RPF officials of Howrah, Division, Eastern Railway, and Customs P&I Branch/Kolkata conducted a preventive check against illegal transportation of contraband goods over Howrah Railway Station (Old Complex) and detained two persons with their backpacks in dubious condition. o­n searching, 25 kg of silver ornaments of value ₹15,00,000/- were found inside their backpack. During interrogation, both of them confessed that they are suppliers and as per demand, they collected the said ornaments from Amodini Jewellers, Kolkata-07, to deliver the same to jewellery shop in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, but failed to produce any documents against the ornaments. Further, the detained persons were taken into custody by the customs official for further necessary action.
