CARDIOLOGISTS AT B R SINGH HOSPITAL MANAGED TO SAVE THE LIFE OF A YOUNG MAN

Eastern Railway’s Hospitals is striving hard to provide super-specialty standard facilities to its employees and beneficiaries. In that endeavor, Cardiologists of B R Singh Railway Hospital have managed to save a precious life of a 20-year-old young man, who was presented with recurrent episodes of loss of consciousness. The team of Cardiology department diagnosed him with Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC), a rare genetic disorder seen in 1 in 3000 individuals. In this condition, there are structural changes in the heart muscle, leading to foci of abnormal electrical rhythm, which causes episodes of ventricular tachycardia resulting in loss of consciousness or even death.
He had recurrent episodes of ventricular tachycardia during ICU stay, which were managed with medications and electrical shocks. He underwent a cardiac MRI, which helped in diagnosing the condition. After achieving pharmacological control, an Automatic Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator (AICD) was implanted, which will protect him against episodes of ventricular tachycardia in the future.
A tireless effort and excellent performance by the Cardiology department / BR Singh Hospital saved the life from threatening cardiac disease by implantation of an internal cardiac device which is going to give back his normal life.
