EASTERN RAILWAY’S JAMALPUR WORKSHOP GOT GREENCO SILVER RATING


Kolkata, May 16, 2023:


Eastern Railway’s Locomotive Workshop Jamalpur Railway received Green Silver rating by CII GreenCo Rating o­n 15.05.2023. Earlier this workshop had got bronze rating. The workshop directly achieved Silver rating by completing its various green rating o­n-site works. Pursuing "green" has become the new driver for companies seeking growth competitiveness and global excellence. GreenCo is a rating system, an initiative by the Confederation of Indian Industry to facilitate Indian industries to substantially improve their environmental performance thereby saving both natural and financial resources. 

Locomotive Workshop Jamalpur Railway has done tremendous work towards environment and has received Greenco Silver rating under the guidance of Chief Workshop Manager Mr Sudarshan Vijay, Environment officer Mr S.B. Tirpathy, Dy.CEE Mr C.K. Patel, Production Engineer Mr Ravi Rajput and with the efforts of the concerned team including all officers. This was made possible by Mr Varun Gaur, Managing Director of Greenco Facilitator Company “De Calorie Energy Consultant – Jaipur” and his team, who assisted as Consultant in achieving Silver Rating for Locomotive Workshop Jamalpur Railway. To get this rating, the workshop has achieved a specific energy reduction of approximately 20% over the past three years by implementing 100% LED lighting in workshop, Occupancy sensor in office rooms, Use of energy efficient IGBT type welding sets, 5 star rated energy efficient AC units, Solar street lights, Day light harvester (Skylight). Turbo ventilators have also been installed for proper air management inside working area. Effluent treatment plant of 1.5 mega litre per day capacity has been installed in workshop and recycled water is being used for gardening and cleaning purpose. Overall specific water consumption has been reduced by 38 percent in the last three years. 

The workshop has a green belt with deep gorges which raise the water table of the workshop as well as the surrounding area. To meet the high energy demand of the workshop, 460 KWp o­nsite solar rooftop has been installed and 3 MW of solar work is in progress. The workshop has reduced carbon emissions by 32.9%. The workshop has norms for disposal of waste material so that no waste shall be sent to the landfill. It will either be reused or sold to certified recyclers and hazardous waste is also reduced by more than 50%. The workshop team has also done tree plantations, awareness and training programmes regarding environment sustainability etc. in nearby campuses.
