World TB Day is observed annually on March 24 every year to raise awareness about TB and efforts to end the global epidemic. World Health Organization (WHO) aims to inspire hope and encourage high-level leadership, increased investments, faster uptake of new recommendations, adoption of innovations, accelerated action, and multisectoral collaboration to combat the TB epidemic. WHO will also issue a call to action with partners urging Member States to accelerate the rollout of the recommended shorter all-oral treatment regimens for drug-resistant TB. 10.6 million people fell ill with TB in 2021 & 1.6 million people died of TB in 2021. But 74 million lives saved since 2000 by global efforts to end TB.
Dr. Asish Kumar Bhattacharya, Additional Chief Medical Superintendent/Howrah elaborately discussed about the different aspects of tuberculosis and its prevention and treatment. Dr. Sukhen Garai, Assistant Divisional Medical Officer/G&O discussed about the tuberculosis in women. Dr. Debjani Mukherjee, Additional Chief Medical Superintendent/EYE/Howrah spoke about the tuberculosis of Eyes and stressed the importance of early diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Chaitali Patra, Paediatrician spoke about the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis in children. Dr. Venkateshwar Pandey, Additional Chief Medical Superintendent/Health & Family Welfare/Howrah) spoke about the role of different sections of society so that we can do justice to the theme of World TB Day 2023 –“ Yes! We can end TB.”
