PULSE POLIO PROGRAMME INITIATED BY B.R.SINGH HOSPITAL

Pulse Polio is an immunization campaign initiated by the Government of India to eliminate Poliomyelitis (Polio) in India by vaccinating all children under the age of 5 years against the polio virus. This mega project fights Polio, considered to be a menace some years ago, through a large scale polio vaccination programme. The objective of this Pulse Polio Programme, initiated in India in the year 1995 in collaboration with World Health Organisation (WHO), is to achieve 100% coverage under Oral Polio Vaccine. Further, it is aimed to immunize children through improved social mobilization, plan mop-up operations in areas where polio virus has almost disappeared and maintain high level of morale among the public.
Intensified Pulse Polio Programme was organised on & from 18th Sep 2022 by Department of Health & Family welfare of B.R.Singh Hospital. The programme continues for 6 days in which children are immunized with Polio Vaccine in Sealdah Station area in co-operation with Station Director/Sealdah, covering the transit children from 0 to 5 yrs age group. About 60 nos of Polio volunteers are engaged in shift to cover the immunization programme. In addition to this, Polio Immunization are also being covered in all Health Unit of Sealdah Division under the guidance of CMS/Sealdah.
