GM/ER LAID STRESS on COVID CARE MANAGEMENT, IMMUNISATION & MEDICAL FACILITIES FOR THE EMPLOYEES IN A HIGH LEVEL MEETING

Shri Manoj Joshi, General Manager, Eastern Railway hold a high level meeting with Principal Heads of Departments, Divisional Railway Managers, Chief Works Managers, today (4.5.2021) through video conferencing. He discussed about various measures for management of COVID-19 including immunisation and medical facilities for the employees with special thrust on frontline workers.
Shri Joshi mentioned that augmentation of CCU beds, medicine stocks and making provision of sufficient beds with round the clock oxygen facility are the prime focus areas. GM/ER congratulated the entire Medical fraternity of Eastern Railway for doing a fantastic job and making all out efforts to mitigate the present pandemic crisis bravely.
It is stated that, total number of COVID beds with B.R. Singh Hospital and other Divisional Railway Hospitals of ER is 730. Total beds with round the clock oxygen facility are 508. Adequate number of oxygen cylinders is available at all the Railway Hospitals. GM mentioned that refilling of the oxygen cylinders is of prime importance and instructed all concerned for keeping special focus on no shortfall of oxygen for the COVID patients.
Protective gears, medicines are available in abundance for all patients and frontline staff. ER continuing its vaccination for all the employess including frontline staff on war footing. Now, ER is running successfully 13 COVID vaccination centres in B R Singh Hospital/ Sealdah, Howrah, Bandel, Asansol, Madhupur, Malda, Sahibganj, Bhagalpur, Liluah, Kanchrapara & Jamalpur. Seven more vaccination centres are proposed to be opened shortly at Ranaghat, Krishnaupur, Barddhaman, Katwa, Rampurhat etc to provide vaccination protection for all Railway employees including all frontline staff.
ER has already refurbished 103 non-AC coaches into COVID isolation coaches with a capacity of keeping nearly 1650 patients. Isolation coaches with COVID care facilities are presently stabled at different stations of Howrah & Sealdah Divisions. These coaches can be provided for the use of State authorities as & when requisitioned placed before the Railways for the same.
GM expressed satisfaction over ongoing safety drives conducted by all four Divisions viz. Howrah, Sealdah, Asansol & Malda and three Workshops viz. Liluah, Kanchrapara & Jamalpur of Eastern Railway. It is noteworthy that during the month of April 2021, ER achieved a record loading of 6.71 million tonnes of freight against last year April loading of 3.22 million tonnes. Thus, ER achieved an increment of 108% in freight loading during the month of April this year in comparison to previous fiscal.
