4 LAKH RAIL PASSENGERS BENEFITTED FROM ‘UTS on MOBILE’ APP IN 6 DAYS
ER APPEALS TO OPT FOR ‘UTS on MOBILE’ APP TO AVAIL 5% BONUS

Kolkata, January 12, 2021:

Those passengers who are tech savvy and used to purchase tickets through digital mode before the outbreak of COVID-19, became inconvenienced due to the non-availability of the services of ‘UTS on Mobile’ app after the restoration of Suburban train services during unlock period. They were also not able to utilize the recharged amount available in their respective account. Since the ‘UTS on Mobile’ app is available on pan India basis and train services were not as usual uniformly across various states, Railway was finding it difficult to segregate the system suitably for a particular state or Zonal Railway. If the systems were allowed as it was during the pre-COVID period, the passengers might have purchased unreserved tickets through the app and boarded the fully reserved train citing reasons that Railway has provided general tickets to the passengers which would cause inconvenience to passengers having reserved accommodation. These were the reasons based on which Railway Board was declining permission to Eastern Railway to re-initiate ‘UTS on Mobile’ app.

In the wake of growing demand of the passengers for restoring ‘UTS on Mobile’ app, the technical issues were finally sorted out in coordination with the CRIS and the Railway Board gave the green signal to Eastern Railway & South Eastern Railway on 5.1.2021 to operationalize the ‘UTS on Mobile’ app.

‘UTS on Mobile’ app for local trains in the suburban sections of Eastern Railway has been restored w.e.f. 6.1.2021.

Till 11.1.2021 as many as 3.91 lakh passengers used the services of  ‘UTS on Mobile’ app for purchasing ticket of local trains in the suburban section of Howrah and Sealdah Divisions. Eastern Railway has earned ₹16.94 lakhs  through “UTS on Mobile’ app for selling tickets for EMU local trains in the suburban section. Out of 3.91 lakh passengers, 1.48 lakh passengers purchased tickets through the app for local trains of Howrah Division and 2.42 lakh passengers for Sealdah Division.

‘UTS on mobile’ app facilitates passengers to avoid queue in front of the ticket booking counters and purchase ticket through the digital mode conveniently. Passengers have to download the app from Google Play Stores etc.  and activate it on their mobile phones to purchase tickets for local trains in the suburban section as of now. The app provides ease of purchasing tickets to lakhs of daily passengers availing a commute in the suburban trains. As was expected, it soon achieved popularity amongst the passengers through the use of contact less digital ticketing facility. This also enables a passenger to follow the guidelines of maintaining physical distancing in the station premises as per COVID health & hygiene protocols of Govt. of India.

Eastern Railway urges upon all the passengers to opt for ‘UTS on Mobile’ app for purchasing tickets for local trains in suburban section for hassle free journey and to avail 5% bonus on recharge value. on recharge of Rs.100/- Passengers can purchase tickets worth of Rs.105/- .
