ER’s FREIGHT TRAINS SPEED HIGHEST IN INDIAN RAILWAYS FREIGHT LOADING & FREIGHT EARNINGS INCREASED
Kolkata, January 8, 2021:
The average speed of freight trains in Eastern Railway for December, 2020 was 57.8 kilometres per hour in comparison to 17.0 kilometres per hour during December, 2019 which is more than 3 times higher than that of the corresponding month of the last year.
The freight loading & freight earnings of Eastern Railway have also made considerable progress during December, 2020. The originating freight loading in terms of wagons during the month of December, 2020 was 3101 wagons per day where as it was 3064 wagons per day during the corresponding month of the last year i.e. December, 2019. It denotes a growth of 1.21% over the corresponding month of the last year.
Originating freight earnings during December ,2020 was Rs. 479 .64 crores in comparison to Rs. 476.34 crores during December, 2019, registering an increase of 0.69% over corresponding month of the last year.
The major commodities loaded were coal, steel, cement, stone and containers.
The above performance of ER in the field of freight loading and freight earnings signifies good work being done in field of Freight Operations Moreover, in the sphere of average speed of freight trains, there was significant improvement despite resumption of passenger trains services.
The higher speed of freight trains are facilitating faster turn around and faster delivery of commodities at destinations. This in turn maintains back end supply chain effectively to suit the growth of economy.
