GOLDEN JUBILEE RUN OF KOLKATA RAJDHANI EXPRESS CELEBRATED BY ER

Golden Jubilee run of Kolkata Rajdhani Express was flagged off today (3.3.2019) by Shri Subodh Ch. Ghosh, Ex. Train Superintendent of Rajdhani Express (superannuated on 31.7.1989), Shri Shankar Das Chattopadhyay, former Guard of Rajdhani Express (superannuated on 31.12.2009) and Shri Ganendra Ch. Talukdar, Ex. Dy. Train Superintendent (superannuated on 31.1.2001) in presence of Shri Harindra Rao, General Manager, Eastern Railway, Shri Sanjay Singh Gehlot, Additional General Manager, Eastern Railway and Shri Ishaq Khan, Divisional Railway Manager, Eastern Railway, Howrah and other Principal Heads of the Departments, Senior Officers of Headquarters & Howrah Division.
The Golden Jubilee of this historic train was celebrated by Eastern Railway in a variety of ways. There was a cake cutting ceremony and a Greeting Stamp was released to commemorate this epoch making event.
Shri Harindra Rao, General Manager, Eastern Railway conveyed his best wishes and greetings to all the passengers of the train. Brand new linen and disposable napkins with greetings of 50 Years of Rajdhani Express were distributed among the passengers. CRIS sent greetings through SMS to all the passengers of the train. Railway staff who were on duty on this auspicious occasion wore a badge containing message of celebration of 50 Glorious Years of Kolkata Rajdhani Express. The destination board of the train was displayed in a novel way depicting this auspicious occasion.
It is stated that Rajdhani Express started its maiden journey on 3.3.1969 with Nine vacuum braked coaches, built at Integral Coach Factory, Perambur, consisting of 2 Power Cars, 5 AC Chair Cars, 1 AC Dining Car and 1 AC First Class coach. With the passage of time, Rajdhani Express passed through successful stages of evolution. Today Kolkata Rajdhani Express was upgraded to SWARN standard (w.e.f. 23.2.2017) with elegant makeover of existing LHB coaches. The journey of the passengers become more and more comfortable with special type of amenities and upgraded services. The train currently is composing of 20 LHB coaches consisting of 2 AC First Class, 5 AC 2-tier, 10 AC 3-tier with one Pantry Car and 2 Power Cars-cum- luggage vans.
