ER’S ELABORATE ARRANGEMENTS DURING GANGASAGAR MELA
Kolkata, January 6, 2017:
For the convenience of the pilgrims during Gangasagar Mela, Eastern Railway has taken a series of steps.
Seven galloping EMU special trains of which two up and three down specials will ply between Sealdah/Kolkata & Namkhana, two up between Namkhana & Lakshmikantapur and one up special between Lakshmikantapur & Sealdah from January 12-16, 2017. Moreover, there will be extension of different trains on different dates on the Sealdah-Lakshmikantapur-Namkhana sections during the above period.
Arrangement will be made for adequate and emergency lighting at the station premises of Lakshmikantapur, Kakdwip and Namkhana well in advance. Arrangements will be made to operate electrical pumps at Kakdwip and Namkhana stations round-the-clock along with additional arrangements of drinking water. Additional Booking counters, three at Sealdah, four at Kakdwip and three at Namkhana will be functional round-the-clock during the mela period. Sufficient staff will be deployed to look after sanitary system at Sealdah South, Kakdwip and Namkhana.
Sufficient RPF personnel will be deployed at Lakshmikantapur, Kakdwip and Namkhana stations who will work with close coordination with GRP for maintenance of law and order and social harmony. ‘May I Help You Booth’ with telephone connection will be provided and manned by RPF & GRP at Sealdah South, Kakdwip and Namkhana. Volunteers of Civil Defence, Scouts & Guide and St. John Ambulance brigade will assist Railway officials at the stations. Two tower wagons will be kept ready at Baruipur and Lakshmikantapur to rush to the site in cases of emergency. Medical unit will be arranged at Kakdwip Railway station.
Police assistance booth will be stalled to facilitate passengers during the mela days. Proper and regular announcement will be made at all stations for mela pilgrims and there will be direction flexes at Sealdah station for guiding pilgrims.
Intensive ticket checking drive will be conducted during the mela period specially between Sealdah and Namkhana.
