Eastern Railway is one of the oldest Zonal Railways of the Indian Railway system and one of the Railways with largest number of employees too. With a present staff strength of 118668, Personnel Department plays a key role in Human Resource Development and Manpower Planning. Through efficient manpower management only can the efficiency of the Railways increase. Personnel Department has played a key role in streamlining important activities like surrendering of posts in diminishing categories where activity is redundant, creation of new posts where activity has increased and massive recruitments through RRCs and RRBs for filling up vital safety category vacancies.
In addition, Personnel Department has been silently ensuring job satisfaction of employees through routine activities like timely promotions, payments, transfers on own requests, mutual transfers, last date settlement payments, welfare activities, encouragement of cultural functions etc.
