The project was sanctioned under RCF pink book-2010-11 item 8 at the cost of Rs.59.3 Cr which subsequently has been revised to Rs.96.02 Cr

Bogie Manufacturing Factory is coming up at Budge Budge, near Kolkata, West Bengal for manufacturing of LHB bogie frames to supplement production of LHB coaches at Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala. The work of setting up the factory is being executed by RCF through RITES on turnkey basis. The factory is yet to be completed and handed over to E.Rly for regular production.

Bogie frame is made primarily from steel plates of Structural steel to EN 10025-5/2004 Grade S 355 J 2W +N. The bogie frame is a solid welded frame   made by steel sheets, forgings and cast parts. The fabricated frame assembly is made up of two longitudinal components, called Side frames connected by two cross members called Brake beams to support the brake units. There are other supports, welded to the frame, to connect the different bogie components.

The future

Bogie Manufacturing Factory, Budge Budge is planned to be a major supply partner of Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala to supplement their additional requirement of LHB bogie frames.
